Greenock Elementary School in The Elizabeth Forward School District has joined the Pittsburgh Commitment to Kindness Initiative! Through a partnership and donation from Avonworth Primary Center and The Children’s Museum, Miss Stephanie Sciulli and a group of 18 second-graders, have started an after-school club and student-run business called “JAM 2 Kindness Club.”
Students stay after school and brainstorm ideas on how to spread kindness throughout their school and community. Initiatives include a pajama drive for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, #BeKindToTheEarth, Autism Awareness Month, and Thank You cards for adults who have helped the students become successful.
In addition to staying after school every other Thursday for 1 hour, JAM 2 also held a “Community Kindness Night” on May 9, 2019. This night included Smiley Cookie decorating, #BeTheKindKid shirts for sale, Kindness Rocks, Face painting for The Highmark Caring Place, a food drive, and kindness placemats for a Senior Living Center in the community. Students and their families joined together to help spread kindness in many hands-on ways!
As the original second-graders who participated in JAM 2 move up to Mount Vernon, the grades 3-5 building, they have pledged to continue the kindness initiative and to always #BeTheKindKid!
